HOW I CHANNEL MY EMOTIONS ON CAMERA
My new musical film "The Greatest Showman" is now in theaters!!! One of my favorite things about doing this movie was getting to work with director Michael Gracey. He’s great with his actors and takes the time to really understand what you’re feeling.
On my first day of shooting, I had to film a really emotional scene. I was so nervous! I was like, “I’m gonna suck! Why does this have to be the first thing that I shoot?!" But it ended up being great and Michael let me get to where I needed to be, which for me, was channeling the nervousness I felt into the emotion I needed for the scene. I turned those initial butterflies into fear and when I’m scared I get really emotional.
We all get butterflies. It’s about turning that into something you can really use.
